POSITION SUMMARY:
• Manages the oversight of Judicial Affairs, Greek Life, Student Leadership, and Multicultural Programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• Master’s degree required
Experience and Training
• Minimum 5 to 7 years increasingly responsible student life experience, including demonstrated experience with supervision, program development and implementation
• Experience with college or university residential communities preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and/or residential life disciplinary standards and procedures
• Demonstrated knowledge of Greek Life, risk management and recruitment and Greek student leadership development
• Ability to converse diplomatically with students and parents regarding sensitive matters involving judicial sanctions, penalties as well as counseling needs
• Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills when on call
• Ability to take 24 hour/day on-call (pager) emergency duty
• Knowledge of and ability to respond to students and parents regarding Guide to Campus Life policies and standards, including judicial and residential policies and systems
• Directly supervises Judicial Affairs, Greek Affairs and Student Leadership, including hiring, firing, disciplining, scheduling, training, assigning work and ensuring completion of assigned responsibilities
• Provides leadership in and is responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to student life
• Implements and plans multi-cultural programming for university students to help maintain and establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Supervises the judicial system, including review of incident reports and formal complaints and parental relations
• Supervises the Greek Life system and Greek Life staff members and assures risk management systems and regulations are current and sustained
• Serves as advisor to Student Government Association (SGA) and provides assistance to SGA staff or faculty advisors and all organizations
• Serves as the fiscal officer responsible for SGA funding and fiduciary responsibilities
• Provides leadership programming opportunities for SGA officers and senators
• Provides appropriate counseling referrals for students related to disciplinary, Greek or residential issues.
• Responds to requests and questions regarding judicial processes for students and parents and others as appropriate
• Supervises the University’s parental notification program for students who have been found in violation of the University’s policies regarding alcohol and other substances
• Creates and annually revises the departmental publication, “Guide to Campus Life” and “Parent Guide to Campus Life”
• Assist with training and development of residence life staff
• Maintains monthly comparative data for the department as it relates to judicial affairs and counseling
• Coordinates outreach for at risk students with class probation notices as well as care alerts from the university community
• Provides on-call assistance with a rotational week night and weekend duty for residential crisis response and support to on-call Resident Director
• Assist the Vice President for Students Life with departmental needs relating to staff support and development and provides support supervision as needed
• Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Life
ACCOUNTABILITY:
• Ensures the functionality, livability and safety of all University students, delivering a first-class student life experience within budgetary requirements
• Directly supervises approximately 4 full-time employees.
