Greek Life Assistant Director/Resident Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
• Assists with the development and management of Greek Life programs and recruitment for the University
• Resides in residence hall apartment within assigned area.
• Supervises Resident Assistants and ensures a successful residence life experience for students in assigned residence hall, Greek Village
• Manages assigned building and safety of residents.
• Evening and rotating weekend on call responsibilities


QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience and Training
• Minimum of one to three years of Residence Life, Resident Advisor, or Greek Life experience
• CPR and First Aid Certification required
• Must successfully complete 4-week training program and 2-month job shadowing program
• Customer Service

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Greek Life functions:
• In conjunction with the Director of Greek Life, enforces and develops policies and standards governing Greek student and organizational eligibility and conduct, in line with University and national Greek organization standards
• Works with Greek organizations and develops and helps with the implementation of Greek recruitment programs
• Performs the review of student applicants for admission to Greek organizations relative to the higher academic and other standards established for Greek students
• Oversees the review of academic standards for continued membership each academic semester
• In conjunction with the Director of Greek Life, helps with communications and advises Greek Life student leaders in relationship with achieving their area goals
• Advises and works with the Coordinator of Greek Life in the development and deliverer of programs and educates members on issues important to Greek life
• Identifies problems or potential problems, academic or disciplinary, and implements intervention measures
• Determines and implements judicial sanctions against Greek organizations
• Assist the Director of Greek Life with the advisement role IFC, Pan Hellenic and NPHC
• Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers

Residence Life Functions:
• Manages 4-6 Resident Assistants and 1 Assistant Resident Director, including hiring, firing, disciplining, scheduling, training, assigning work and ensuring completion of assigned responsibilities.
• Conducts mandatory walk-through and ensures any maintenance, housekeeping, safety or curfew problems are identified, reported and resolved
• When on duty (evenings and weekends on a rotating basis), serves as “first responder” for any type of emergency, determines appropriate actions/resources needed, makes necessary arrangements, communicates with parents, and accompanies students to medical facilities are needed
• Ensures University social and housing regulations are understood and followed by students; manages residence hall activities; determines and administers discipline and sanctions for minor judicial infractions.
• Determines when students need to be referred to Counseling Services, Judicial Affairs, etc. for resolution of more serious issues
• Develops social and educational programs, in conjunction with Resident Assistants, to support the academic and social development of students
• Resolves roommate conflicts; determines appropriate method of resolution
• Ensures all assigned areas are appropriately staffed at all times to ensure resident safety
• Manages openings and closings of assigned building around breaks, and open and close of each term
• Advisor to Hall Councils for assigned areas
• Attends all meetings and events as designated by the Greek Life Director, Vice President of Student Life and/or Senior Director of Student Life or Assistant Director of Student Life
• Other duties as assigned
